Here are interesting facts about some of our favorite essence oil fragrances and Aromatherapy

Lavendar essential oil

The beneficial, balanced scent of Lavender
Lavender Essence Oil (or Lavender Essential Oil) comes from the lilac-purple flowering tips of a shrub originally found in southern Europe and Great Britain but it is also cultivated in many other countries all over the world.

In ancient times, the powers believed to be associated with lavender were: Love, Chastity, Peace, Longevity, Protection, Sleep, Purification and Happiness. Lavender was used in the 18th century in perfumes and soaps.

For centuries, Lavender was believed to have magical powers. Some of the uses of Lavender included love spells. The scent of Lavender was believed to attract men. The fragrance was worn often by prostitutes several centuries ago to attract customers. Love letters were often scented with Lavender to give them greater potency. The aroma of Lavender was considered conducive to a long life. Lavender was also used in healing mixtures and worn to protect against evil and added to baths for purification.

In the Renaissance, it was believed that Lavender together with Rosemary would preserve the chastity of a woman. It was also believed that the scent of Lavender placed under your pillow while making a wish before you fell asleep at night, would make your wish come true if anything relating to your wish showed up in your dream.

There are many varieties of Lavender from all over the world, but the beneficial applications of balancing the body and the mind remain the same.

The clear, light, flowery aroma of Lavender essence oil is the most popular essence oil in the United States, far outselling all others.

Reported benefits of Lavender include: promoting calmness, easing tension and depression; relaxing and balancing the mind and body; soothing tired muscles and benefiting the immune system by encouraging stillness and tranquility.

Perhaps the reason Lavender Essence Oil has been used so extensively for centuries, for everything from an aphrodisiac to spiritual healing, is that it works.

Sage essential oil

The clarifying, cleansing properties of Sage
The herb Sage is highly valued for both its culinary and health benefits. The name Sage is derived from the Latin "salvere", meaning "to be in good health".

The plant is a member of the mint family. The origin of Sage can be found in Southern Europe, but today it is cultivated in many parts of the world, including the US. The highest quality Sage fragrances are considered to be French, English and Moroccan.

Sage Essence Oil is a colorless or pale yellow/green liquid with an aroma described as nutty and sweet. The oil is extracted from the tops of its flowers and from its leaves. Sage Oil is a popular essential oil that can be used in the baths as a stimulating fragrance and in Aromatherapy as a potent purifier, detoxifier, anti-inflammatory and calming agent.

For centuries, Sage was believed to be a promoter of purification, healing, cleansing, immortality, wisdom, longevity, protection and wishes.

Sage essence oil has been used as a method to purify the body, awaken inner guidance, clear emotional blocks and promote calmness and clarity.

In ancient times Sage was burned at the altar or in sacred spaces to consecrate the area and in homes to remove impurities, to banish evil, to provide protection and to bring prosperity. It was also used in healing incenses and sachets.

Sage essence oil has been used as an effective relaxant and sedative. Because the fragrance has uplifting qualities, it is often used in the treatment of depression, anxiety, tension and mental fatigue.

Other reported uses for Sage are helping to relieve sore throats and hoarseness, helping to preserve moisture in dry skin and as a treatment for hair loss and dandruff. It has also been used for helping to relieve high blood pressure, P.M.S. and menstrual cramps.

The anti-inflammatory qualities of Sage have been used for relieving throat and respiratory infections,
in a vaporizer to disinfect sick rooms, and for gingivitis, canker sores and gum infections. Sage tends to have a drying effect, and can be used for excessive saliva production.

It is important to know that Sage essence is a potent herb and its use for medicinal purposes should be avoided if one is an epileptic, pregnant or lactating. It should not be combined with Alcohol because it can exaggerate the effects of intoxication.
